2002-09-12 22:17:00 | I recently had my machine upgraded to a 1 . 2Gb AMD Duron processor (the motherboard is a 7Dx(R)+7DXE AMD Athlon Socket A Processor Motherboard according to the manual that came with my upgrade) . I am running 256MB RAM and have a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 video card installed . I am utilising the built-in sound-card (as I did prior to the upgrade) Prior to the upgrade I was able to play movies/sounds etc on Windows Media Player . Now, despite having installed all the latest codecs (as suggested by Microsoft) and trying other programs (incl DivX Player 2 . 0 Alpha) I am unable to play sounds . eg: I can no longer play mp3 and wav files . If I try to play a video clip (eg: avi, mpg) I can see the video but can not hear any sound . Other tidbits of info ============ * Winamp 2 . 76 plays mp3s , wav files etc etc fine * I have checked that all the options on the volume setting on the task bar are unchecked * The device manager shows that there are no hardware conflicts and that the following are installed . . . 1 . Gameport Joystick 2 . VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM) for Win98se 3 . Wave Device for Voice modem * I have deleted the up above items and reinstalled them * I have reinstalled Windows Media Player (v 7 . 01) twice with no luck * I have run a full system virus scan (using latest defs and have found no viruses) Any ideas would be truly appreciated!

2002-09-12 22:26:00 | You said you had the latest codec for DivX (Aren't they at 5.5 or something now?) Is it just the one video files. If WMP isn't playing Wav's or MP3's either, then it's somethingi n the config of WMP7. Prehaps it is simply muted, an easy thing to do. Check that it's not muted. Also, If it's just WMP that won't do your sounds, try a different program, such as Sasami2K Media Player, That's a good one! Chilling_Silence

2002-09-13 03:53:00 | Thank you for your ideas -- unfortunately my problem is still unresolved :( Answers to your questions... 1.) I have installed the latest codecs (incl DivX) but was trialling a player called DivX Player 2 2.) The problem occurs with all video and audio files 3.) WMP was not muted 4.) I am trying to download Sasami2K Media Player -- but it is obviousally a popular download as it is downloading very s l o w l y... Thanks for your help thus far -- if Sasami2K works I'll get back to you (fingers crossed!)... In the mean time more ideas are welcome!!!

2002-09-13 04:00:00 | Try Upgrading the drivers for your Soundcard. It happened after the upgrade, so it may be that it's your drivers. What version of windows are you running? Good Luck Chilling_Silence

If you can't hear any sound what so ever then try reinstalling the driver for your sound card. If your sound card is onboard then check your bios to see whether it has been disabled. |
