| 79209 | 2002-09-14 23:19:00 | Mike, I guess you're right about the battery. I've seen old 386's with the old barrel type battery still working today! They either don't make them like they used to or perhaps it's to do with BIOS's holding so much more info on them, they wear out quicker. They need to make bigger batteries, like a powerful torch needs bigger batteries than a little pen -light. Wonder if that ever occurred to the comp makers? Having said all that, if I may reiterate: The battery has nothing to do with this problem. The CPU fan should not start on its own accord wen I put the power plug in the back, it schould patiently wait until I press the on switch! I'm left with only one course of action and that is to try another PS, if that gives the same result I'll know ... what? that the MB has snuffed it? In that case, I'm going to need help transplanting the CPU to anothe MB. That's one thing I've never done (yet) I suspect my own 16 month old com is an ATX, so, will have to drag that one into the action ... if I can drag myself away from it for an hour! Buzz |
