The files are different. It rejects the admin update before the CD key is required. No way of bypassing it without a crack of some sort. It doesn't really matter as I can just apply the patches after install, but it would have been nice. Oh well will try it for XP just as soon as PC World puts the netork installer on the cover disc **fingers crossed**.

79139 2002-09-15 09:51:00 I understand that you still have to install SP1 before SP2. kevinL (1785)
79140 2002-09-15 10:28:00 JM Of course the disc is physically different, you have to put it in back to front for it to work P J ]:)

PJ, an Enterprise Edition of the software is the copy that you get if you are a multi license holdre eg a corporation or school as it allows you to install the same copy several times.

What you do is an administrative install. This essentially involves copying the contents of the CD to the hard drive before installing it. The setup program automates the process for you. You can then install the software over a network on a number of machines.

The same goes for the service packs.

What I wanted to do was apply the service pack to the copied files on my HD, and then re-burn them to a CD. I would then have a "slipstreamed" CD that would automatically apply the service pack when Office is installed saving me from doing it everytime I have to re-install. It also means less files to backup.

But, because I did not have an enterprise edition of office, I was not able to do this.
