Nothing, Windows is not a Secure Operating System .

Whats to stop someone accessing your PC in normal mode? Not much . If you are paranoid, and the BIOS allows it, set a BIOS password . It will slow them down a few minutes thats all .

If you take the cover off and do a few seconds work, you could gain access to the system software quite quickly, but we wont go into that here .

78988 2002-09-13 04:24:00 Right, I'm going to set my Bios password right now. I'll also check for that wintasks on my discs.
Scuse my ignorance, but I still have not seen any clear advantage in running Scandisk and Defrag in safe mode, today is the only time I have had problems, and that was because I tried to use them in safe mode. Am I missing something?
Also, I have seen people saying to leave Explorer and Systray only running. I do not have Systray running, and have no problems.

78989 2002-09-13 09:26:00 Danger,

Never used safe mode for scanning...I only heard about that (ideal) process after joining up with this PC message board. Though I hve altered my scan.ini file to allow repeat scanning & a few other tweaks within this ini file (ideas from within this PC World magazine last year)...

Cheers...

78990 2002-09-13 22:10:00 For most people, running scandisk/defrag while in safe mode . Fix's a lot of their problems, usually resolving around the 10% issue .

In your situation this obviously didn't work, I suppose the above theory could be excused considering their are a million billion configurations of computers out their .

Just do it the way, that works the fastest for you
