79249 2002-09-13 10:14:00 Hi,a friend of mine is looking to change his e-mail address because he was silly enough to give out his address to every place he visited on the web that asked for it,and now he is being flooded with spam,up to 60 a day.When he went to xtra to try and change it,they told him it would cost $20 and take up to 4 working days.Is this normal,and is there any way around this.He is now going to get a hotmail account for giving out online,but doesn't know what to do with his normal one.I suggested that if he is going to change,he may as well change ISP's and get a cheaper deal while he is at it,as he will have to tell everyone his new address anyway,but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Clear will not let me collect email via jetstream which is a letdown
Xtra does not seem to let me manage my account which is almost worse
Clear allow users to manage web pages and DNS settings, whereas Xtra do not seem to
I can have 5 (from memory) clear email accounts and have them all forwarding to other email accounts (which is how I get my clear email via jetstream now)
So for his purposes, Clear looks like a better option

79251 2002-09-13 10:51:00 I have a connection with Actrix and it is only a matter of calling the helpdesk to change the email address, there is no charge.
Your login username will also change as username and email address are linked together. but this only means changing the username in your dialup connection and the account name in your mail program.

For Xtra to charge $20 for a simple change to the database which is no more difficult than changing your phone number or postal address seems a bit excessive.

antmannz is completely correct. I have three email accounts with Xtra:
all you have to do is ring the help desk and ask for a new one. As long as no-one else has it, its yours. I think you can have up to free ones.

As far as spam mail goes, install MailWasher. Its a free download. You can bounce all the spam you get, to your hearts content!

If you ask for a new email address, they'll just attach it to the exisiting account (technical term is an 'alias'), and your friend will still be in the same boat.
