79121 2002-09-13 04:04:00 My FL Inverter that lights the screen on the laptop has burnt out. Does anyone know if I can get a similar replacement here in NZ. I bought the laptop in the UK. Details on FL Inverter are

Name - SUMIDA
Number on Sticker - TWS-400-8543 & 000104 FB"
Number on pCB of Inverter - PWB-IV12098T/B3 KAI HWA 011VOUL94V-0

It doesn't have to be the same inverter, just a compatible one
Any help appreciated

Thanks
Siarl

79122 2002-09-13 04:18:00 Hi Siari

It would help heaps if you posted the make and model of your laptop.

Also explain how you know that this particular part is faulty and why you think a module from another brand would be compatible.

This will help non-technical types to understand your problem and you might find somebody with a dead laptop who could donate it to you.

Can you remove and replace this part yourself?

Cheers

79123 2002-09-13 04:35:00 Sumida have a site on the web. Just type sumida in the search engine at www.google.co.nz, and you will find it.

I would suggest that Sumida make the invertor inductor for the laptop manufacturer, but the inductor itself may not be the faulty component.

79124 2002-09-13 08:04:00 I have a "zombie" laptop. It's a desktop now. The backlight tube died and replacements simply aren't available. I would have to replace the whole TFT assembly for measly $US700 +P&P.

So I extracted the offending screen/lid off the laptop and it now looks like a black Commo128.

Backlight tubes are more common to blow than the inverters, which are pretty solid.

Would probably be cheaper to hunt around for another similar laptop that has blown something else.

79125 2002-09-25 10:00:00 Sorry I haven't returned to answer everyones replies.

In case it helps, it is a TIME laptop, so there not much chance of bumping into one over here.

I can replace the part myself, but will probably have to contact the TIME £2 a minute phoneline to find out where I may be able to get hold of the part. It may be cheaper to fly back to the UK.

I have checked the website but got nowhere unfortunately.

Perhaps it is a lesson to everyone that if they intend to buy electronic goods in another country to at least buy a known brand (eg Compaq) so at least repairs will not be too tricky.

I'm currently running it through an external monitor with no problems so it may just have to stay that way.

Once again thanks all the contributors.

79126 2002-09-26 08:47:00 H Siarl, the part you are looking for seems to be available at a site in germany called Sabel. They say that most inverters sell for about 128 euros + frieght.
Their URL is too long to post here but if you
type "sumida pwb-iv12098t/b3" and go to the site called sabel-inverter and translate it from the german, about 3/4 of the way down the list you will find the part. They mention the price at the top of the page.

It has taken a while to get back to PressF1.
I have emailed away to them so I will wait and see.

Your help is VERY much appreciated.

Cheers
