79379 2002-09-14 02:28:00 I have a computer with Elite p6bxt v1.3 mobo and 700 mhz pentium. I am considering replacing CPU with Celeron 1 ghz Tualatin. Have done some homework and there do not appear to be compatibility issues.

I noticed a previous thread where Cpu power was mentioned. Eg a more powerfull CPU. Does this simply mean speed? There is also bus speed and L1 and L2 cache

We use a heavy graphics program and under some operations the CPU usage goes up to 100% and stays there for up to 1 minute at a time. Memory does not seem to be a problem.

Any comments would be appreciated.

79380 2002-09-14 02:33:00 why would you want to? the 1ghz celeron is slower than a 700mhz p3.

go find a 1ghz p3 :)

79381 2002-09-14 02:45:00 thanks--that was quick.

sounds like good advice. But ---why is it so?--- to mimic the "good professor".

79384 2002-09-14 05:34:00 celeron has less cache and slower front side bus than a p3.

for games/graphics the p3 will be faster.

i did some testing ages ago with a 633 celeron vers 350 p2. they ran roughly equal dispite the p2 being almost half the clockspeed of the celeron.

mhz isn't everything.
