Second, if this doesn't work let me know as I have not properly tested it to see if it works on all systems. I know that if tweakui is installed, that key may be present, but my documents still not displayed, so let me know.

We are not out of options yet (almost).

79476 2002-09-20 01:36:00 Graham, I am only missing My Documents, so should I do what you suggest or is that just for the section? nzwalkabout (299)
79477 2002-09-20 02:26:00 Hey nzwalkabout, see you are still hanging in there for a solution - good on ya!!!!
O . k looking at this link: Shared Doc folder missing from my computer (same thing as you just different folder)
. microsoft . com/default . aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q319825" target="_blank">support . microsoft . com

And here are the excerts to get the shared docs back when they are missing from the same place - my opinion would be follow the instructions but instead of going through it for the shared doc just using the parts related to you docs .

SYMPTOMS
When you view the "Files Stored on This Computer" heading in My Computer, shared documents folders for users may be missing .

WORKAROUND
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system . Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly . Use Registry Editor at your own risk .

To work around this problem if the computer is already in this state, manually add the registry entries . To do so, use Registry Editor (Regedt32 . exe) to locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\DocFolderPaths
Add the following registry value, and then quit Registry Editor:
Value name: user name
Data type: REG_SZ
Value data: user profile\My Documents

>>>3 I think you would not do this below, cause you only need your docs back - so the directions above should cover it?? i . e using your user name and user profile .

Replace the user name and user profile environment variables with the literal values for each user who logs on to the computer .

NOTE: In each user's My Documents folder and subfolders, open the Desktop . ini files and modify the Owner value under the "DeleteOnCopy" section to match the user name .

>>>>4 I am not experienced in this area (registry edits)whereas alot of other F1ers are so they may be able to give you the exact changes and say if this theory sounds right??? So some feedback from them would be good! - Perhaps before you try it!!

79478 2006-03-09 10:40:00 Hi Graham,

I just found your post after a few fruitless hours searching for the solution to this problem.

This was after a "clean" install of Windows XP Pro with integrated service pack 2, and when i opened "My Computer", the My Documents, and Shared Documents folders were missing, in fact there was no "Files Stored on this Computer" section at all!!

I followed your reg tweak, and this solved it immediately.

I had to register with the forum just to Thank you, so,

Thanks mate, really helped me out.

PS: I'm in the UK.

Regards, Carl Hobbs.

OK, I had turned this feature off in my XP Pro system, so long ago I forgot about it.

I have a question? Is the entire "Files Stored on This Computer" section missing from My Computer, or just My Documents??

If the entire section is missing, here is the fix:

1. Backup the registry.

2. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\DelegateF olders\

3. Select the key, and right click in the right hand pane and select new>Key.

Name the new key {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}

4. Inside the key, right click on "default" and select modify. In the modify window, just click OK to confirm the value is blank.

Your problem should now be fixed.

You can easily fix it using tweakui which is a free download, or on the PC World cover disc.
