79442 2002-09-14 08:32:00 I have recently un-installed the demo of macromedia fireworks. It had taken control of all of my Image files and as a result when I try to open an image file now it says there is no extension. I am wondering how I can change all of my graphic files to the default Microsoft Paint without going through the File Types menu as I have already tried. I am running Windows 98.
Thanks

Tux

79443 2002-09-14 09:59:00 Hi Tux, see FAQ13 about changing file associations.

You have 3 options:-
1) Open the program that you want associated with an extension and see if it has an option to associate files with the program (I dont believe Paint has an option)
2) If there is no association with a particular extension then double click the file and an Open With dialog box appears. Select the program (mspaint) and then select the "Always Open with" checkbox.
3) Select the file extension via the file types tab under folder options.

Option 1 allows you to associate many extensions with one application, while options 2&3 require a one by one change of all the extensions you require to be re-associated.

cheers
