2002-09-15 09:38:00 | :| I want to send an article on "Beginners Computers" that I have written,to some friends in the UK. It is 8 X A4 pages, 192kb long, From MY Documents Word. I don't think this is particularly long, is it? I am on XP. In the UK what ? Blowed if I know. Without getting orribly complcated, is there an easy way to "Compress" this (or anything come to that) in such a way that even a W95 computer will translate it back??? Serious Poppa John :| (Hard to believe innit!) :D

2002-09-15 09:48:00 | you might try saving it as a .rtf format document (rich text format)... depends on the type of formatting options you have used in it though. that way it would almost certainly be accessible to older versions of word etc. rtf does not support columns and the like though I think.... cheers ;)

2002-09-15 09:51:00 | actually... if it's not a problem, can I scab a copy of that maybe? We (me and my dad) have been talking about getting an old PC set up for my Grandparents to use for email and the like.... if that's what your tutorial is about they might benefit and then I wouldn't have to write one myself :D or is is more about the hardware side of things? Let me know, ta :)

2002-09-15 10:01:00 | loser. No problems, you're welcome. I only hope the G Ps are broad minded!! It is not meant to be serious ( well I'm not am I ?) just encouragement, a push if you like. I am sure a Techie could fault some of what I hve written , oh well. I will open my Profile for an hour so that you can get my E-m Addy. Let me have yours , to mine, & willdo. Poppa John | Poppa John (284) | |

2002-09-15 10:24:00 | Poppa John, are you sure the recipients overseas will have Word? Many people don't have it, you may need to save it as plain text, or even HTML in order that they can view it without having to deal with it as an attachment for which they have no means of opening? If word was not bundled with their machine, its unlikely they will have it. Word on its own costs about $300 in NZ, so its not a purchase many make straight off. Not many machines have Word as OEM. Many people send their letters as text and as Word for this reason. As text your 8 pages would be about 20k only (Save As - File of Type - .txt)
