79646 2002-09-15 07:31:00 It's been a while since I last popped in here, but now that exams are all over I'll make an effort to check in fairly regularly.
I hate to start things on a bad note but here I go anyway...
My dad asked me to reinstall Win95 on our old computer, Pentium166..that's about all I can remember off the top of my head. Anyway, it was all pretty simple, I just put in the CD hit next a few times selecting the standard options and then it started to install. After a short while it came up saying that there were new versions of some files and it recommended I replace them, so I hit yes whenever they came up (there was no yes to all option..). So after it finished it said it would retsrat, which it did..Only when it was loading it came up with an error saying some windows files were corrupted and to run setup again, then press any key. so i press a key and this message comes up about 8 times with different files and the same problem and after that you hit it again and it goes to shutdown.
I tried putting in the CD, and the bootdisk it creates during installation but they did nothing. It won't start in any mode except Command prompt which scares me since I've never really used it, so I've just left it how it is and decided this would be the best place for help. Anyway, I'm sure it's simple to fix (or at least I hope it is!) once you know how to use command prompt.
That's it for now. Thanks for any help in advance, I'd be happy to answer any questions you've got. -Nk.

79647 2002-09-15 09:08:00 I would suggest that you should probably format your hard drive and do a clean install of Win95.
To do this you will have to make sure that your boot disk loads the drivers for your CD drive.
To check this boot your PC from the boot disk, insert the Win95 CD in the CD drive and at the command prompt type D: (or whatever letter your CD drive is). The command prompt should change to D:, type dir and you should get a list of the files on the CD. If this doesn't happen you will have to make a boot disk that will install the CD drivers.

79648 2002-09-15 09:10:00 Obtain a good DOS 6x or 95 boot disk and reformat the hard drive.

If necessary install CD ROM drivers and reinstall 95. Don't mix and match the system files of 95 with any other version of Windoze unless you want later problems.

79652 2002-09-15 11:04:00 Alright everything's going fine now, one last thing then I'll leave you alone.. How do I format the HD? I assume this is done in Command prompt too. I'm not going to format right now but I better do it in the near future so I might as well ask now.
Thanks again for all your help. -Nk.

I would have thought the wait for ages would go unspoken though..
