79701 2002-09-15 11:15:00 Newer vesions of Word can read any files that were written in older versions of Word. However, conversely, anything written with a newer version of Word, cannot be read by an older version except maybe if absolutely no formatting was used, I don't know, haven't tried that yet) (btw, Word for Windows is NOT part of ANY version of Windows) However, WORDPAD is! (not to be confused with NOTEPAD, which is a simple, 'wordprocessor' suitable only for quick, short notes.)
Wordpad is a perfectly adequate wordprocessor that comes free with Win95. 98 and, I can only presume, with any subsequent versions. It can read any file saved in either *.doc, *.rtf or *.txt format.
It does not automatically install with the installation of windows, so you may need to get your rellies to check if they've got it, if not, go to Control panel and 'Add/remove programs' to install it.
If you are not sure about the recipients' capabilities, use no special formatting and use basic Times or Arial as your font. If the file is not too big, saving it in *.txt format will even open it in Notepad. If necessary, send it in small batches.

I take it your link problem still exists from within this forum? Perhaps you should hunt down that post and <bump> it back up again for someone to help out on :-)

79704 2002-09-15 11:21:00 buzzybee,, Your first para from "Newer thro to formatting",is what I understand as well. Now I always "Send" in Times as I think it is common to all Windows versions. Poppa John Poppa John (284)
79705 2002-09-15 11:26:00 Jen C Yes I still have that "missing link finding" problem in part. I am ok in Outlook Express now but not in F1. Have had to walk away from the problem at the moment as it is a "bad health" week, the more I concentrate the Shakier I get. Poppa John :( Poppa John (284)

79707 2002-09-15 11:42:00 buzzybee. Hey oop Lad/Luv (don't know the gender?) I am not being critical at all, if I sounded so I am sorry. What you wrote, some was new & some was confirmation. Thanks Poppa John :D Poppa John (284)
79708 2002-09-15 11:55:00 Poppa. Funny how the written word just doesn't convey what we really mean, isn't it. (I guess that's why they invented emoticons) I didn't mean to sound like I thought you were being critical, I was just excusing myself for being so 'wordy' :D :^O
PS, I'm a pussycat ... I.e. feline
