79691 2002-09-15 10:38:00 Goddie, No I am not sure (now) as I assumed Word was part of every Windows version. Now you have me wondering, occasionally one of them complains they cannot open A Word Doc. I put that down to me, perhaps, being on XP & using a Font that is not on their m/c so they cannot read it. I always write/send plain text. Ta Poppa John Poppa John (284)
79692 2002-09-15 10:51:00 Word has never been part of any windows version.

Some retailers package "Works Suite" with the PC, and this suite contains a copy of Word.
Many also package plain Works (not "Suite") which does not contain Word.

Word is available separately, or as part of Microsoft Office. As an example, I have recently upgraded my Office package to Office XP, and the upgrade price was $600. In order to upgrade I had to own Office 97, which cost more than $600 when I bought it. Students can get much cheaper rates, but the programs are not for use outside that sphere.

Its an expensive business, which is why Word is not readily available to the home user.

Wordpad and Notepad are part of Windows, and these will open .txt files, but all formatting is lost in a text file.

79695 2002-09-15 10:54:00 but you do have limited formatting options if you use rtf, which all versions of word, wordpad, blah blah should be able to open.
why give away word when you can charge half a quijillion dollars for it....

79698 2002-09-15 11:09:00 no no i was mistaken I think.....
Give me heaps anyway, I don't care. Just remember though, when push comes to shove, it's not the 20 year olds who fall down the stairs when their grandparents are standing at the top laughing :D

I really like this part of the tut...

"Think about it, going to bed means getting undressed, going for a weewee, taking your teeth out, hearing aids out & glasses off, yes? Why should the computer be any different."

It's funny, coz most of the time I forget to "get undressed and go weewee"...
