79617 2002-09-15 08:58:00 Hi Ron

I don't like the < or << dross either. I won't pass messages on with that present but it is easy to remove. I copy & paste into a WP program (Word usually, but Works is fine too) then do an edit/replace. Enter the number of < you want to remove from your email, leave the replace with blank and press enter, that's all it takes. Then just cut & paste the cleaned up doc back into your email client and close the WP file without saving.

Cheers

79618 2002-09-15 09:23:00 I hate those > things and fixed my OE not to put them in long ago.

If you want to change yours, in OE go to Tools>Options>Send>Plain text settings and remove the tick from "Indent the original text with ..." . Do the same for the HTML settings too.

I also sent an email to all the people who like to send me jokes, etc instructing them how to do it as well, hoping that they would get the hint and then tell their joke providers. It helped, a little, but usually I'm forced to do as Billy suggests, finding and replacing in Word.

Sometimes I get a little lazy though (sorry Baldy!).

79619 2002-09-16 11:22:00 I don't know whether or not I am talking about the same problem as my answer seems too easy, but I am using Outlook Express 5 . 0 and if I want to forward a received e-mail, I simply click on forward and adjust it from there .

A message window opens, headed Fw:, with the original subject listed in the subject line, plus the original full message, including the >> things, listed at the top of the new message area .

All I have to do is to select and delete all or any part of the original message, amend the subject if necessary, type any required message, enter recipients address and send .

79620 2002-09-16 12:12:00 Hi exLL

Long time no see, you've been pretty quiet lately.

Have you been away or just maintaining a watching brief?

Cheers

79621 2002-09-16 13:18:00 Thanks Billy, it was nice of you to enquire of me .

Yes I have been quiet . My limited knowledge allows limited help only .

No, not away, just background watching, not brief though, reading almost everything, especially your entertaining postings .

The new Press F1 seems to have settled down to a well balanced mix of help with just enough humour to keep the regular knowledgeable posters interested enough to stay with the forum and continue giving such valuable FREE advice . I am convinced that without the humour amongst the regulars who contribute so much, there would be less incentive for them to stay . The site would certainly be a poorer place without them .

I see that the forum has had some appreciation from the UK recently . If it became too popular there, I wonder how it would cope if there was a massive volume increase?

Cheers . (he says, as he mergers into the background once again . ) LOL

79622 2002-09-17 06:29:00 Hi from me too exLL, nice to see you are still with us . :-)

You are quite right with your method of deleting all or some of the original text in a forwarded or replied to email, that works fine when you are corresponding with just one person .

I think the people here are referring to the multi-forwarded "chain letter" kind of funnies, "interesting" emails and that kind of thing where they don't actually add their own text . The emails go from inbox to inbox countless times and that's when the >> things are a nuisance because every person who forwards it adds another > until there can eventually be a dozen on each line!

But for corresponding with your friends and family the > are handy for when you want to quote someone's text and have your reply underneath the relevant bits so that the recipient understands what you are referring to .

It's horses for courses, as usual . :-)

79623 2002-09-17 08:29:00 Hi Susan.

Thanks for explaining that to me, I was rather puzzled about it.

Cheers.
