80192 2002-09-16 23:26:00 I am having problems e-mailing 1Mb attachments to a client. He is receiving files with a .att file type, raher than the .zip I sent him. Can anyone please help? KB. kbcad (1025)
80193 2002-09-16 23:37:00 Thought I would ask the obvious.

Does client have winzip installed on his computer?

80194 2002-09-17 00:25:00 G'day, Sam - Yes - BUT, it appears he is not using Outlook Express as I thought but Microsft Outlook for his E-mail (I'm not clever enough to know the difference). Would this make a difference? He recieved the file I sent (a .zip file) as 2 files, being 0001.att and 0002.att. Looks like my end could be splitting files for transmittal, but I thought when that happened they were automatically re-combined at the receiver's end. kbcad (1025)
80195 2002-09-17 02:04:00 I would imagine it's something going on at his end .

You fail to mention whether your friend is downloading his mail directly from a pop server, or from an Exchange server (you may of course, not know) .

If it's from a pop server, her should receive the attachments ok . If it's through an Exchange server (because he's at work, or whatever) the administrator may have set it so that zips get handled differently to prevent the installation of virii, etc onto company machines .

80196 2002-09-17 02:39:00 He is using a pop server. However, I am still thinking the problem is at my end. I have just tried sending a different .zip file (size just under 1Mb, similar to previous one) and my OE Sending mail dialog box showed 1 message being processed. (I don't know yet whether he has it OK) The previous occasion showed 2 messages (parts 1 & 2) so it looks like OE is splitting the message. this raises 2 questions; why? and how do you re-combine 2 .att files? 80197 2002-09-17 03:24:00 In Tools/Accounts/Properties/Advanced
Check if you have Break apart messages larger than xx selected.

80198 2002-09-17 03:33:00 To check if your OE is splitting large file attachments

In Outlook Express
On the Tools menu, click Accounts .
On the Mail tab, select your mail account and click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, first check under Sending if the Break apart messages larger than x KB check box ticked if so then uncheck it .

(If you want to set a split point this is where it is done)

NOTE: Most mail servers have a maximum message size limit - often one megabyte (1MB)

80201 2002-09-17 06:07:00 I get those .att files with attachments sent to me. They appear to be the "delivery helpers" for want of a better description.

Just wondering whether your recipient's Outlook is discarding the .zip files as a security measure and they aren't actually getting them. I could be wrong but I would have thought your recipient would get both the .att and .zip files together if it was working.
