79982 2002-09-16 07:09:00 I am running XP and a Lucent Modem. Dial up OK and connection not a problem however if I stop the connection then restart at a later time the connection opens OK but the applications like, Internet Explorer and Pegasus Mail wont find server and report Winsock connections not working. If I log off and restart PC then all is well. It appears intermittent as the applications may connect OK but cant be relied on. Its a nuisance to have to restart PC when this happens. Any ideas appreciated., epollock (1326)
79983 2002-09-16 08:10:00 I would strongly suspect that the driver for your winmodem is not all that happy under XP.

Find the exact make and model of modem, and try the makers website. I had to give up on 2 winmodems under XP, with strange behaviour (such as working first connect and crashing the entire system second connect)

79985 2002-09-21 22:45:00 Are you connecting direct your Dialup connection or from IE
Try connecting from Start/connect to/ISP connection

Also check this
With Internet Explorer open select Tools/Internet Options
Click on Connections tab at the top
Make sure your ISP connection is showing as the default.
Make sure "always dial my default connection" has the dot in it.
Click Apply and OK

79989 2002-10-01 04:12:00 Try removing your Dialup connection and set up a new one.
It sounds as if some part of your dialup connection is not resetting properly after the first use and requires a reboot to get it back to normal.
