80160 2002-09-17 21:29:00 Thanks Susan and tweak'e. I know how to automatically get the updates, but not how to save them to my pc to find them later! Tried "save target as" to download the update but it didn't like that.Or can I find it later in my pc after downloading to save to a cd.That's what I'm confused about! Neil. Neil McC (178)
80161 2002-09-17 22:42:00 go to windows updates, select the ie6sp1 and it will download an installer/downloader not the actual sp1 update.

run the ie6setup and then follow thy instructions brfore and it will download the sp1 update and save it on your pc for you to install later.

80162 2002-09-17 23:12:00 Depending on which OS you are running. It certainly doesn't work with Windows 2K. There isn't any options for you to choose from. The installation process just continues without any user prompts until it is finished.

I've been trying to save it to disk but without much luck! :(

80163 2002-09-17 23:30:00 I see from a previous post that Neil McC has WinME . I recently downloaded SP1 with ME and you do get the options that tweak'e is talking about . Here are the steps broken down in case you are getting lost somewhere:

1 . Click on the Download Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 479 KB file .

2 . When the File Download dialog box pops up with Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer? Choose Open

3 . Accept the agreement and click next

4 . Choose Custom Installation

5 . Choose Full , then advanced, save to disk .

6 . Sit back and wait approx 45 mins (56K Modem) for the file to download .

Then follow tweak'e instructions as per his first post .

:-)

PS* I wish I had seen this thread before I downloaded SP1 so that I could of saved it as well!

80166 2002-09-18 01:53:00 Thanks tweak'e and Jen.I've figured out what I was doing wrong.I was going to the update site that the pc points to.I went to the download centre site instead and now know what you're on about! I've downloaded the ie6 exe file and will run that later.Boy I had trouble trying to log in this lunchtime.Had to reset my password to what it usually is and at last got in as myself, whoever I am!Thanks again,Neil. 80167 2002-09-18 03:11:00 i was going to download that today but figured it will hopefully be on an upcoming pcworld cd, so i'll wait for that :o) athlonboy (1781)
80168 2002-09-18 08:22:00 To download the full IE6SP1, put the ie6setup.exe into an empty folder, say c:\ie6.

Then go Start -> Run and run the following command:

"C:\ie6\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

Make sure you include all of the ""s. If you put ie6setup.exe into a different folder other than ie6, change the above command to point to that folder.

Once executed, you will get the option to choose which version of windows to download for, if you select all of them the download will be about 45Mb.

The options are

Windows 98 - 19.3 Mb
NT - 19.1 Mb
2000/XP - 11.3 Mb
ME - 12.7 Mb

The windows 98 version cannot be installed on any other version other than 98 and so on..
