80150 2002-09-16 21:26:00 Hi,I've just gone on the Windows update site which tells me I need the SP1 for IE6. Says it will take 1 min. After it is downloaded it carries on and tells me it needs another 1 1/2 hours to download. Is this correct? Bit baffled by this. Comments please. Neil McC (178)
80151 2002-09-16 21:34:00 I think the 1 min download determines how much of the SP1 update you need or something like that. GaryK (1375)
80152 2002-09-16 21:41:00 Hello Neil,

Yes that is correct, it downloads a small update file to your temp. folder, then proceeds to load the required amount of updates your ie6 requires.

You can if you wish cancel the downloading at any time, it will then place a shortcut on your desktop, with which you can start the downloading again without losing any part of the download.

cheers,
Bob

80154 2002-09-17 01:44:00 Another question then. Is it possible to download the update to my pc and save it to a cd,or will it only download and install itself? Or is it not worth doing that way! Thanks. Neil McC (178)
80155 2002-09-17 03:06:00 Same deal, I'd like to be able to d/load and save to a CD, so I can take it to clients who have dial-up (I'd prefer not to have sit and wait 2hrs, or make 2 trips).

Or maybe PC World could include it on their next CD?

80156 2002-09-17 09:18:00 yep easy enough...just go to customise, full , then advanced, save to disk.

the installer will then download the full ver of sp1 update to disk. copy ie6 (off pcworld disk of course) to harddrive, then copy paste sp1 over the files (rewriteing files of course). then burn it to disk. this gives you the full ie with sp1 included so you can install ie6 with sp1 included onto another machine without having to do an sp1 update. don't forget to do windows update afterwould has sp1 does not have all the updates.
