| 80088 | 2002-09-16 12:01:00 | I am going to instal IE6 and would like to know if I can uninstal the previous versions on my drive i.e version 4.0 & 5.5 first. I am thinking that it is using up disk space having them sitting there. If I remove them and then instal IE6 will it work ok? | Peter M (852) | ||
| 80089 | 2002-09-16 12:58:00 | Interestingly I once found I couldnt jump versions. I was unable to successfully instal IE 5.5 over IE 4, it required IE 5 to be loaded, then IE 5.5. You could try it, but do be aware that IE is quite tightly bound into the main operating system, and you may experience some turbulence and crashes. I have never seen any stats as to how much bloating goes on, but I imagine only 1 undo is available, in that if you uninstall IE 5, you are left with IE 4. But if you want to uninstall IE 4 at that point, I would not recommend it, as I noted its tightly bound with your (version unknown?) operating system, and you are then trying to uninstall a central part of windows. If a complete format and install is not a worry, then fire ahead? The above ASSUMES you are in fact running Windows.... |
