80019 2002-09-16 08:15:00 My next 'dumb' question for tonight - I have put our professional group members into a database in Access - Office xp. It works very well, but of course we have some new members - and when I originally put member data in, I 'locked' it. Now I have forgotten how to 'unlock' the records, and to be able to update them. Can anyone help me?! R.M. (561)
80020 2002-09-16 08:51:00 G'day RM. Select Tools-Options-advanced tab then change default record locking to no lock. I have Office 2K so hopefully XP settings are the same or similar.

cheers
Parry

80021 2002-09-16 09:08:00 Thanks Parry - I tried that, but no, it doesn't change things. :-( R.M. (561)
80022 2002-09-16 09:18:00 Is it a form you can only view but not edit data? In design mode, right click the field select properties, data tab then change locked from yes to no. You could also have an On Current or On Load events to lock the fields when the form is opened so see if you have any events as well.

Not sure if this is what you are meaning.

80023 2002-09-16 09:35:00 Yes - I sort of understood some of that. When I go to the main switchboard (is that a form?), where I put new member info in, I can add some of it, but not all. In other words, I can add the email address, but not the name of the person. But when I look at the underlying table, the info is there, and when I run the query, I have a tick for yes/no to email the newsletter, but no name! Frustrating?:| R.M. (561)
80024 2002-09-16 10:03:00 Hi again, sorry Im still a bit confused. Been a long day and it's Monday after all :-)

Yup, the switchboard is just a form but theres some code in the background which enables you to manage the switchboard by adding new menu items and telling the switchboard what you want it to do (open a form, run a macro etc)

You say "where I put new member info in" ... do you mean theres an option on the switchboard to add a new member and this opens another form or report?

If this is the case you may have to look at the query to ensure that the name field is selected (the show field is ticked) or see the form/report in design view which may have the field locked (or hidden if you cant see it on the form).

To see a form/report in design view, in the Database Window select the form/report and click design then right click the name field and select properties. Select data tab and see if Locked=yes & enabled = no - these settings disable editing so reverse to locked=no and enabled=yes . In the same tab see that Control Source is the name of the field in the underlying table - this ensures its a bound field and will show data from the table.

If the field is hidden (you can only see field in design mode) then select the format tab and change Visable=no to Visible=true.

80025 2002-09-16 10:21:00 Yes thanks, SOME of that makes sense, but as you say, it's been a long day .... I'll have another crack at it tomorrow night. Many thanks for your patience, but I'm not there yet! R.M. (561)
