80242 2002-09-17 09:58:00 Hi Neil, I have both Nero & EasyCD Platinum & can confirm that DirectCd will work with CDR's not just CDRW. You cannot have both InCD and DirectCD installed at the same time.

DirectCD is much better than InCD in my opinion but I wouldnt make a decision on that. Like the others my vote goes for Nero although I do like some features on EasyCD like its music creation with an autorun type feature.

cheers

80243 2002-09-17 21:25:00 Thanks parry,I will grab this cd and try it,seeing I can have both on at once.Only other query is does the Nero have the capability to save off a tape/stereo like Spin Doctor in EZCD.But I will find that out,it's just that there seems to be more than one program of Nero's to do different things.Neil. 80244 2002-09-17 22:44:00 Well that was a waste of time.Called back to the shop and another guy in there said that the cd of Nero they had for sale would not find my cd writer,as mine came with ezcd 4.And that I need the full version straight off.Start again! Thanks for your comments. Neil McC (178)
80245 2002-09-17 23:32:00 Ummm... I think the guy might be wrong... only glimpsed through your postings, but if you install that copy of Nero, and then upgrade from the original site here (http:www.ahead.de) then you will find that it SHOULD find your cd-writer no problems.

NERO NERO NERO, OI OI OI!!! ;)

Seriously... toss out that Roxio cr@p... come to the light side.

80246 2002-09-18 03:42:00 Rule number 3 in the computer industry:

Salesmen are not technicians. They often do not know what they are talking about when it comes to technical details and experience. They often go by the own limit amount of experince with PCs and call themselves godfathers as a result. (Sorry Goddy, no reference meant here :D)

Nero has detected every CDRW I've thrown at it, including a puss box old HP external 2x1x1 toaster.

The fact is - Nero doesnt give a toss about the writer itself - its up to the drivers to control the writer. What Nero works with is control interfaces which basically means it looks at the plugs and not whats on the end of it.

I have had varying results with DirectCd and InCd. AFAIC, DirectCd is rubbish, and was never really designed to do a professional job with windows(c). InCD is better, but can cause problems too. They definately do not get along with each other. In fact Nero will tell you to uninstall DirectCd before installing Nero.

EZCD creator itself was designed for simplicity. However with this you get a certain lack of control over what is going on. At best, EZCD will guess what type of CD you want to make. Nero, however, will step you through a wizard if you choose, and then you can fine tune the settings any time you like. With Nero you can make Data, Audio, AudioExtra (has track info burned in to display Artist song etc with compatible players - popular these days), Data with Audio, Video (MP3, DVD, VCD etc) and hybrid - cross platform (PC & Mac) CDs. This may be a bit much for most people, however I prefer the higher degree of control over the whole process.

And now I will shut up...

80247 2002-09-18 04:52:00 Mmm, I agree with SK, Roxio never found my Creative writer, no matter how many updates from 4.X, I couldn't be stuffed with 5 costing much more, and with all the pissing around they put me through with updates that didn't even work, I couldn't be stuffed. Nero worked first pop, put in the CD, and 2 minutes later was burning.
BTW, I only tried these two after much confusion with NTI-CD-Maker, I coasted Many a CD using that thing, it was so unstable, I wouldn't ever reccommend it, and updates for Roxio, I'm never going to Roxio.com again!!!!

DUnno what this is about Direct CD and CD-R's coz I thought the CD had to be specially formatted for UDF Packets or something. I like InCD, it's pretty fast and works, its safe, so I continue to use it.

80248 2002-09-18 07:13:00 InCD is bloody slow to format - 20-30min where DirectCD took half that, so maybe Im missing a patch of InCd if people think its so fast? Ill stick with DirectCd anyway as it has better compatibility for what I want.

Pretty pointless formatting a CDR anyways (I was just trying out for curiousity) as the idea is to be able to read/write/delete frequently, while CDR's cannot have data deleted.

80249 2002-09-18 08:11:00 Parry, you mention that you have both Nero and Ezcd5 installed. Was thinking of loading a trial of Nero. Will it load ok without the Incd and not fight with Easy Cd? Looks like the best way without buying one I may not like.Thanks,Neil. Neil McC (178)
80250 2002-09-18 08:44:00 Hi Neil, yes you can have them loaded at the same time with no worries. Only issue is that you cant have both InCd and DirectCD loaded together. If you tried to install Nero and DirectCD is present it will warn you, but I believe the installation is split into components so you can elect not to install InCd, or just uninstall DirectCd first and see what you think of InCD.

cheers
