| 80448 | 2002-09-17 20:52:00 | As a very amatuer user of Word 2000 I need some help. In Word 6 I could click on "paginate" and my writings would compress and fill in all the gaps. In 2000 I don't seem able to do this. I copy and paste from an un-editable program but it leaves spaces etc. and I have trouble making it look professional . But at least it can be edited. I am thinking of going back to word 6, but surely I shouldn't have to. |

I don't have Word 2000 but I understand that the less commonly used features are "hidden" and if you want to use them you need to sort of "unhide" them. I don't know exactly how but somewhere in the menus there will be something like "show all options" or similar. Maybe have a look for that first? You could also try the Help and ask for "paginate" as the key word. |

I can recall it in WordPerfect 6 however. Help on Word XP isn't much (help, that is). Other references are to the "auto pagination" in Word). |

I'm glad there is at least something that I am better than you at! Actually, I only replied to this in order to bump the thread up to the top so that you would see it and give an answer. |

| 80453 | 2002-09-18 09:31:00 | I knew of the options under para, but I think the original request was for a toolbar button, like WP had? | godfather (25) | ||
| 80454 | 2002-09-18 09:59:00 | Never happy huh ;-) Show all options in menus From the Menu, select Tools-Options-Customize then clear the "Menus show recently used commands first" check box. Also tick "Show full Menus after a short delay" Adding icons to toolbar Select View-Toolbars-Customise-Commands tab and select the option you want and drag the icon into the toolbar. The categories for commands are organised the same way as the Menu items. So if you want paginate as an option (Format Menu), click the format category then scroll down until you see Para ... and select the particular pagination option. cheers Parry :-) |

| 80455 | 2002-09-18 18:20:00 | As I said I am an amateur. But I know that there was something in word 6 I could click on and repaginate my document. ie. fill in all the gaps and compress it. If I delete a paragraph or sometimes when I paste something in I may finish up with huge gaps. How do I close them up? Also if I insert a page break with everything I want on the one page. The next time I go to that page the last line or two is on a second page and the page break is on the new page. Thanks all for your interest, Jack |

| 80456 | 2002-09-18 20:17:00 | Hi Jack, I havent much time b4 I have to shoot off to work. Not sure about spaceing - are you referring to spacing between paragraphs or spacing between lines? Is it text as well or a picture? I may not know this one but will help if I can :-) The second question depends on where you insert the page break. Select the paragraph in question then go to Format-Paragraph-Line&Page Break tab. Now you have several selections here... If last line of paragraph is on new page then select "Widow/Orphan Control". If you inserted a page break within a paragraph & wanted to keep the whole paragraph together select "Keep Lines Together" Check out the other two options as well. Have a play and see what they do. Some things you need to visualize. Have a good day :-) |

| 80457 | 2002-09-19 03:35:00 | JJJJJ, have a look under Format on the menu bar and see if Auto-Format is there. If it is, click on it and click OK in the dialogue box and see if it does what you want. If it does, let us know. If that makes a huge mess of your document just close it without saving, then let us know. |
