2002-09-17 18:22:00 | Hi Guys ... I've just upgraded to the Pro version (from the freebie) & have struck a minor irritant, which will, in time turn into a major, I think. At boot up (cold or hot) the 'dial-up-connecter' opens on the desktop, I've tried all the usual things (the FAQs) & an un-instal/re-instal of ZoneAlarm, it does not appear when uninstalled, but came back on the reinstal, so I'm sure it's a ZA problem. I've done a 'connect' hoping it could be 'calling home' but it just connects to the ISP (Clear) & the desktop remains At least if you 'cancel' it goes away & dosen't keep popping up. Has anybody else had this problem ? Does anybody know a 'fix' ? I've decided that 'Pro' is a waste of money (just for the "who's this") but, it's too late now ! Regards....Dunk.

2002-09-17 21:12:00 | Thanks for tip DUNK. I have been contemplating going to Pro version for a while but I have always wondered what the REAL benefits would be. Free version stops people getting in and stops programs getting out, the perfect job for a firewall. As for the connect box appearing. Have you tried going to: Run - type msconfig ok - go to Start up and if connect dialer box is there then untick and ok out of there. Good Luck sam m

2002-09-18 13:11:00 | Thanks Sam ... No, it's not in 'start up', already checked that, it's definitely a ZA thing & I can't get into ths 'guts' of ZA to see what's causing it. I agree with you about the 'Pro' The 'freebie' seemed to do the job well enough ... But, I had to damn well find out the hard way, as usual! Any more clues .... Anyone?? Regards....Dunk.

Have you tried disabling everything, and then reenabling it all as required, i just thought that it might be that somehow during the upgrade a programme that shouldn't have been given access to the rest of the planet, was granted permission!? |

2002-09-19 09:50:00 | I had the same experience with ZoneAlarm Pro installed off the free CD . On start up the dialer came up and wanted to connect . After uninstalling ZA Pro, the problem has disappeared and that is the only fix I have been able to find . It also stopped me being able to listen to the BBC Radio programmes that are accessed off their site after they have been broadcast but it would allow me to listen to their live stream!! Will watch this topic to see if there is a fix, cross fingers .

2002-09-19 11:58:00 | Okay . Apart from trying the "Manual Update" tip I can confirm what is occurring . When you start your computer the first thing that occurs after network connection (if any) Zone Alarm Pro sends a DNS request (ie port 53) to check the IP address of lockup . zonelabs . com If you are using the Freebie version this doesn't occur . If you want, you could always ask ZoneLabs why their Pro version does this or you could wait for about an hour until the PC with Zone Alarm is running adain and I'll check to see if the DNS query occurs when Auto update is disabled .

2002-09-19 12:32:00 | mmmm . . . . . i thought the DNS lookup bug was fixed in 2 . 6 and up . i stopped useing ZA due to the buggy ver3 . i havn't check for a while if there is still any bugs in the latest ver .
