80970 2002-09-19 03:26:00 hi

i am considering buying a Creative Soundblaster Audigy but have heard on the internet that these card dont get along with VIA chipsets. I am using the Soltek SL-75KAV which use the VIA KT133 chipset. Has anyone here in NZ experienced any problems? The problem is that there aren't many other soundcards to chose from here in NZ and i really want the Live bay.

80971 2002-09-19 03:37:00 I use the same M/B and a Xwave-5000 sound card. This uses Yamaha chipset but not sure where I purchased it from. Probally not much help, but try Dayrll at pcgamer.co.nz That's where I got the Soltek M from, and I'm sure he will help.

80972 2002-09-19 03:47:00 Same mother board, I have the creative sound blaster live, the only problem I have had is between the sound blaster and NIC but only in windows, and using the WDM driver for the sound blaster seems to have fixed it. SaAB (1292)
80973 2002-09-19 04:00:00 There are documented problems with VIA and creative cards. It has to do where the bus is parked when the card finishes using it (a bus-mastering related problem - something creative soundcards have always had a hassle with). Very technical and boring. Although extensive driver revisions have dealt with most instances it still comes up depending on hardware configs.

I avoid creative cards entirely now and have found a fantastic card in the Gametheatre XP card from hercules which has a breakout box you stick on your desktop with every input/output right there in front of you. They can be found at the www.gamezone.co.nz store and other outlets in Auckland for $399 or less. I now have 3 of these cards and will never look at anything else. Have a look at the specs on the site linked. I am sure you will be impressed.
