80929 2002-09-19 02:40:00 Is ISA - (Microsoft Internet Security & Acceleration Server) capable of filtering undesirable websites, like porn sites? We are setting up a network for a school (as our final year Project) and intend to use ISA to do the filtration. We have tried with the evaluation version of ISA but without much luck.

Suggestions, please.

If you want a package that has a list of banned sites and list updates you'll need a product like SmartFilter. Be warned that these sorts of products don't work well, are expensive and take a heavy handed approach to banning sites.

In my optinion the best solution is a well configured Firewall and Proxy, good virus scanning and an Acceptable use policy signed by students, parents and the school.

80932 2002-09-19 04:28:00 I don't think so Tim!
ISA can be either a proxy or firewall or both, depending on how you install it. Out of the box the only type of filtering you can do is through the 'site and content rules' but you wouldn't really consider this filtering is the true sense. You can only block certain sites and content.
Try www.isaserver.com for a comprehensive list of web filter plugin's and tutorials on this topic.

Its been mentioned on F1 or Imag or something recently. Would it not work if you tried that on the server?

80934 2002-09-19 06:24:00 Why not use software filtering, such as Cyber Patrol? It comes free for schools when they use Xtra. or get Norton Internet Security. Both have completely customisable filtering options, and are super effective. Greg S (201)
