2002-10-16 11:16:00 | first off there has always been a problem with winmodems under linux secondly an hcf modem is not an winmodem lucent is winmodem conexant is hcf (used to rockwell) thirdly dump the winmodem and buy a hcf based modem as linux and this type of modem seem to play nice with each other

2002-10-16 16:55:00 | I also have Mandrake and a Winmodem. Could you please give me the link for the drivers as I have never been able to find them. It would be much appreciated.

2002-10-16 19:20:00 | do a search for linmodem hcf is a type of winmodem, not brand. connextant is a brand as is LT (lucent) not all winmodems will work with Linux, and those that do can be tricky. My theory is, if you followed the instructions, and it still doesn't work, by a hardware modem. You can waste a lot of time trying to beat a dead horse.. try www.limodems.org i think SiK

2002-10-27 03:11:00 | Had another go at playing with settings but to no avail, just dials saysconnecting then "exit status 16" as usual, is this something to do with the modem not getting enough CPU time? and as for WVDial will it work through KDE and how do I set it so my browsers know where to connect to the internet. thanks in advance nigel

2002-10-28 09:01:00 | Hi Nigel, Have a look at this wvdial page (open.nit.ca). It should answer most of your queries concerning wvdial. I just use the command line/shell version of it that came with my installation. My version of Linux is rather old (Red Hat 6.2) so it's difficult for me to upgrade most things easily. I believe a graphical interface is now available for it. Good luck! :-)

2002-11-01 05:15:00 | Greetings from Linux I finally have my modem working and I am stoked, the problem turned out to be the password, (don't laugh), for some reason the password I have been typing in to Xtra on a regular basis didn't work through Linux, but when I changed my password, ( as all security concious pixies do), it all worked so thanks every one for their help' 2 quick questions why isn't wordwrap working when I enter this post and how do I make my browser autodial the net when it is clicked on and also how do I get a scroll mouse working under linux? I have done it under RH 7.3 at tech but I'm not sure how to do it here Once again thankyou everyone
