81295 2002-09-20 05:46:00 When I try to view Binerie Pictures in Outlook Express 6 Some times they are viewable yet sometimes all that comes up is Binerie Codeing, is there a way to decode these files using OE.
Ta N Thanks

81296 2002-09-21 11:07:00 What kind of pictures are you trying to view? Using Outlook Express for email or for newgroups? (By that I mean are these pictures you're trying to view in a newsgroup, or did you receive them in an email?)

81297 2002-09-21 11:14:00 if your using OE for news groups, i strongly suggest you give up!

Download this program instaed: Xnews from http://xnews.newsguy.com

Lots of binaries on news groups use y-enc encoding, which removes a huge amount of overheads, but OE isn't up with the play yet.

81298 2002-09-21 11:19:00 OE will display yEnc fine if you use a program called "Y-Proxy" which you can get from http://www.brawnylads.com/

you'll need to set it up correctly though to get it to work.

81299 2002-09-21 11:28:00 True mike,
But OE is a horrible news reader for binaries.. Fixing it with y poxy is as hard as installing a descent newsreader.

If you just want to pick up all the pictures, and have a look in the folder in the morning to see what if anything you want to keep, try SBnews robot.
Very lite, very tidy.

The Y-enc issue forced me to look at the alternatives, and i am so glad that i finally gave up on OE as a newsreader

81300 2002-09-21 11:36:00 Fair enough I guess - I didn't find it that hard to set up y-proxy, just a matter of changing my OE server, and y-proxy is small.

But then again I only read a few news groups occasionally - not very often at all, so it's probably not worth looking for a new newsreader
