81056 2002-09-19 13:26:00 I have recently upgraded to XP and am enjoying the stability (was running win Muck Edition). The only problem is when I shutdown, and the monitor tells me it is safe to turn of my computer. I would like it to do this for me if it could.
Packard Bell Imedia a1000nw. If anyone has a fix for this, please let me know.

81057 2002-09-19 13:37:00 No offence, but why would anyone want that? It was just an inconvience..It had no real use if you ask me.
Sorry I can't help, but I don't see why you'd want it anyway..

81058 2002-09-19 22:01:00 Are you saying you'd rather it tell you that it's safe to turn of the computer, instead of it turning it off automatically? I'm a bit lost as to what you're wanting.

Mike.

81059 2002-09-19 22:33:00 You need to turn on Advanced Power Management (APM) in your BIOS, and in Windows Power settings. Your BIOS is probably OK as you say it worked under ME and nothing should have changed.

Here are links to recent posts giving instructions for your problem:

81060 2002-09-20 08:33:00 Thanks GP. Know it does what it should. and to the other two, having the computer turn itself off is what its supposed to do, not tell you that you can turn it off yourself.
I have had to turn it off before in winME and when it started again, it began scandisk to check for failures. Having it turn itself off is a safeguard against this. Less problems will arise.

81061 2002-09-21 03:02:00 The only way I found XP would shutdown for me was when I reformatted the computer and then installed XP again.

Of course the computer has to have the ability to be setup like that anyway. if it couldn't before you put XP on then it won't now

Cheers :)
