Apart from a few reasoned responses by people who have used both extensively, most of the information pertaining to Macs is plucked out of thin air by people who have no experience, interest or wish to give unbiased information on the relative benefits of using a Mac and as a result the comments are not helpful and far from the truth. I use both, PC's at work and Macs at home. They both do the job required but I prefer Macs and some of the reasons can be found on the link Susan B posted. I suggest as you have experience of PC's that you go along to a Mac dealer and have a test drive the same as you would if you were buying a new car and make a comparison. You would not normally ask someone what car to buy, assuming they were proven reliable models you were considering, you would sit in several, get the feel of them and go for a drive and come to a reasoned decision on what you liked the best. |

| 81403 | 2002-09-20 19:25:00 | There was a period where I used both PC and Mac, and I still prefer the PC . Now you may think this is because I am just to rigid and I am not willing to expand, but as far as software goes, if you are after a program that does a specific thing, you will obviously have a quick look on Google, or you may know a specific product, and you will download/purchase it . On the Mac, it is less likely that such luck will be granted to you . The Mac is simply put, a colourful fish tank . The majority of computer users today will go for the Mac simply because they like the look . Once they start the computer, they enjoy the screen at which is in front of them . They do not however, realise what they are missing out on if they had gone and bought a PC . Yes of course, Microsoft Windows XP is great, but with Mac OS X, it has sent them right back to the drawing boards . PCs were the computers at the beginning and it is obvious at the moment, that people are starting to get sick of them, and they want to venture into something new, namely, the Mac . It is also said, that Macs and PCs cannot share files amongst themselves (no, not because they are greedy) . I know personally, for a fact that I can share files between a Mac and a PC, and Microsoft's products on the Mac are pretty much the same as on the PC . Though the Mac editions to contain a few extra features here and there . Then comes the gaming side of things, Macs just don't run your harsh power-hungry games of today, only little 'Winnie the Pooh' . PCs are fine with them and can handle them, as long as your up to date . So first-time computer users will definitely go for the Mac, it has style, and also has the user interface (though, in some aspect I am sure the PC does too) . The PC, I think, is more for the advanced computer user, unless you are willing to spend a few days cursing Microsoft, and then getting used to it . As for reliability, I can't comment on that, but according to most people, it is pretty much the same on the Mac as it is on the PC, though I don't see how the Mac can crash on anything, there is nothing there for it to crash on(ignore that, I am just being bias) . The PC is pretty much the same as it always has been, a few 'Illegal Operations' here, and few popups 'Would you like to send this to Microsoft?' there . Most computer users of today, don't even need what they have in the computer . Children, whose parents can afford it, go and buy huge computers with 2Ghz, 512RAM, $400 speakers (and make surround sound in their room, and I do know a kid who has this) etc . Of course, children, what will they do? Play a few Quake games and hand in a few assignments in a size 16 font - 192-256RAM, 600Mhz MAX, etc . Though they go overboard and get things that they can't/won't ever use . The same goes with the new adult computer user, come on, you've surely grown at of the gaming side, you're bound to only be typing/programming . Do you really need 512RAM? (The above paragraph diverged - just a little :)) I cannot draw upon a conclusion, simply because people may read into it too much - you use your brain . Zan P . S . You may find some obviously bias comments, if so, ignore them . :) |
