81066 2002-09-19 11:02:00 I'm running Outlook Express 5 on Win 98. It downloads my messages from Hotmail into the Inbox - shows how many are there - but as soon as I click on the Inbox they all vanish. Downloading again they show up but again disappear as soon as I click on the Inbox. markl (1936)
81067 2002-09-19 14:53:00 Can you change the settings so that the inbox is displayed on start up?

In OE 6 you go to
tools > options > general > tick "when starting up, go direct to my 'inbox' folder" Restart OE

Hopefully this is the same for you, i dont remember there being any change between the 2 versions.

This probably wont cure the problem, but it will be interesting to see what is happening in greater detail, and might help to point the way to the answer.

81068 2002-09-19 21:58:00 Mark,

Do you have any emails in your inbox that are from your hotmail account, or is the inbox completely empty? If there are emails there already, from a previous download, they might be the ones that OE tells you it has downloaded, as all it is doing is synchronising with hotmail, so it may download some, but then realise you already have downloaded them, and so doesn't display them as new emails (which they aren't, cause you've already got them).

81069 2002-09-19 22:21:00 Yes - it already goes straight to my Inbox. It shows (1) beside the Inbox header indicating one new message but as soon as I click on Junk then Inbox the (1) disappears and no messages are there for me. I am having to go into Hotmail to retrieve the messages. Incidentally this does not happen on my Junk box - it shows them fine. markl (1936)
81070 2002-09-19 23:43:00 Why do you click on Junk and then back on Inbox? Why don't you just stay on Inbox and see if any headers appear?

The headers don't appear until I click off then on the box.

81072 2002-09-21 02:17:00 RESOLVED!!
Thanks everybody - I've resolved it by deleting the entire Hotmail account and recreating it. Works perfectly now. Thanks to all those who took the time to answer/read my message.
