81667 2002-09-21 07:04:00 I have done everything to try to get this to work - but to no avail.

I have installed WinME on a partition, and then I popped my WinXP cd in and chose the "New Installation" choice - and it did some stuff in XP installation screen, before rebooting the computer.
After it had finished rebooting it went to the XP setup screen, and installed it normally.
Once It had finished installing I tried to reboot but it did not come up with a screen to give me a choice whether to start with ME or XP. What is the problem? Do I need to have a Dynamic drive to install ME in?? what the heck is Dynamic drives anyway???

Please help, I am on the verge of reformatting my computer and I have already reformatted FOUR times today!! >:(

81668 2002-09-21 07:26:00 First, read the multibooting windows FAQ in the FAQs section (top right of the screen).

Now, did you install XP to a different partition than ME??

If not, you probably installed XP over the top of ME.

Check the different partitions to see if the ME files are actually there, if they are post back and I will give you details to check in your boot.ini file.

81669 2002-09-21 12:55:00 Yes, I have read the FAQ over and over again constantly to try get the Dual booting right .

I made sure I installed a New Installation into another partition . Does it matter if the partitions you installed into are not of the same hdd or not dynamic? Also, I installed ME into "D:" drive instead of "C:" and installed XP into "C:" drive . That wouldn't make a difference right . . . ?

And yes, all my ME things were there, I think it might have been my boot . ini file . . . I've been seeing lots of ppl who want to dual boot have this same KIND of problem

81670 2002-09-21 13:27:00 Win ME you have to put on C: and put Win XP on D: BootyLicious (526)
81671 2002-09-21 13:34:00 Install Win ME on C:,Put your Win XP cd in cd-rom and reboot and start the win XP cd at start up for a clean install. It will ask you where to install
Win XP install it on D:

thanx guys I have to reformat again :(
thanks anyway
But what's that about the boot.ini file? other ppl have had that kind of problem before and they couldn't get the boot menu to work...
Any help or info about that file?

81673 2002-09-22 03:06:00 The boot.ini file controls which OPerating system will boot by default if you do not select one on startup. It also controls howlong you have to make a selection before it boots the default. Some other settings are also specified in there, but these are more advanced features.

You are unlikely to want to change anything in there unless it doesn't work how you expect.

You can make changes from inside the system properties dialog in XP.

Once you have everything installed post back and I will walk you through it.
