| 81940 | 2002-09-22 05:27:00 | Hi all, Well I've finally managed to get my Linux system (Red Hat 6.2) connected to the internet :) I'm working on a shoe-string budget and it's taken a while, but I think that is a good way to learn computers anyway. It was a struggle to get the Winmodem (Conexant HCF) to work with Linux but it can be done. I downloaded a driver for it recently, but it had to be recompiled to suit my older kernal (2.2.14-12). Then the modem appeared to be dialling an connecting (using wvdial, couldn't get Kppp to work), but it just sat there with nothing happening. Anyway, DNS setup was the problem, just had to edit /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/hosts to suit my ISP (Slingshot) and it works!! :D ... now to get my soundcard to work ... then my printer, (sigh) ;) |
