2002-09-22 03:29:00 | A friend of mine, instead of having neat printing for 'Start' and for the time, has almost unintelligable writing in their place. Can anybody tell me how this would happen and how to get rid of it? Charlie. | Charlie (1982) | |
2002-09-22 06:55:00 | It is strange that only the Start button and time is foreign, but you could try going to Control Panel>Regional Settings and making sure that English (New Zealand) is selected. | Susan B (19) | |
2002-09-23 05:40:00 | Thanks Susan, I have confirmed with my friend that not only the 'Start' and 'Time' is affected, but also the writing on diminished pages therein. The writing is in English but he wants good clear printing just like an ordinary mortal. Charlie.

2002-09-23 06:52:00 | Ah, it sounds like his font is unsuitable. Right click on the desktop, choose Properties then Appearance. In the box under Item click the down arrow and scroll up to Active Title Bar and click on that. In the Font box click on the down arrow and scroll up to Arial (Western) and click on that. In the Size box choose 10 and also click on the letter B to the right of that to enable Bold fonts. Now go back to the Item box, and scroll to Icon. Change the Font to Arial again but choose size 8 this time. Repeat for Inactive Title Bar, Arial font size 10. Repeat for Menu, Message Box, Pallette Title, Selected Items and Tooltip: all Arial font size 8. Click Apply to see how it all looks and if you are happy with it click OK to set it. If you are not happy with it just change the font type and/or font size and experiment until it suits you. I've just given the above as a suggestion to start you off.

2002-10-03 05:34:00 | Thanks Susan B. I haven't had the opportunity to call on my friend, but a telephone conversation reveals that his details are the same as mine: 'Desktop' and 'MS Sans Serif (Western). I have been playing around with my desktop and I get close to his problem. Can you tell me how you can get printing for the icons and writing on the taskbar?

2002-10-03 21:42:00 | >>> Can you tell me how you can get printing for the icons and writing on the taskbar? Sorry, but I'm not quite sure what you mean . If I understand you correctly the icons on the taskbar do not have text captions on them like some of them do on the top menu bars, is that right? If so, then that is normal . If you hold your mouse over them a text caption will pop up and tell you what the icon is . Do you not get that? The only icons on the taskbar with writing on them are the windows that you have open . If that's not what you mean, could you clarify it a bit more for us?

2002-10-04 05:33:00 | This is what I am trying to convey: The main icons on the desktop are accompanied by nice clear printed words. The word 'start' and the time are in a sort of print/writing which is difficult to read. Also the icons on the taskbar, of windows which are open, have the same sort of print/writing. These are the windows that have been minimised. The icons on the right, of programmes running all the time, when one holds the mouse over them, have good clear printing. I am also confused.

When the windows are open and have funny text on their taskbar headings, do the program's windows titlebar up the top of the screen have the same funny text? Or is it only on the taskbar that has the funny text? Also, is it only when the windows are minimised that the funny text appears or is it there all the time? |
