| 81863 | 2002-09-22 00:47:00 | Hi. My IE runs incredibly slowly when browsing sites anywhere. I seldom use it as I prefer Netscape, but have to run IE at times to preview sites. I've had this problem ever since ver5, and currently run 6. I'm familiar with Windows in most respects, so of course I've checked all the normal stuff. Netscape of course flies, so I know the issue is browser specific. I've asked for help elsewhere, but nothing's come up - even the suggestion that it may be a plug-in problem, which I've checked. I thought maybe the info in this (www.mentalfloss.co.nz) screenshot from MSINFO may provide a clue, so if someone really clued up could take a look, I'd be grateful. The issue isn't serious, so I'm just asking the question in a bored moment. Win98 with plenty of ram and adequate cpu etc. Ta. |

| 81866 | 2002-09-22 11:27:00 | Known causes of IE slowdowns are high temporary internet files disk space settings, a large number of days to keep pages in history and a huge index.dat file. FAQ #9b (pressf1.co.nz) gives instructions on how to trim the latter, if you don't already know. |
