81808 2002-09-21 22:36:00 I am running Win2k Pro and an IDE HDD connected with an 80 wire ribbon cable. It shows up in device manager as a SCSI HDD and also I have a SCSI/RAID controller (when I know I don't have SCSI) listed in device manager as well.

The SCSI/RAID controller conflicts with my Primary IDE because it's using the same resources. HDD still works fine how it is but I can't get the computer into Standy-Mode because of the device driver conflicts.

I can't uninstall the SCSI/RAID controller because I have to unattach whatever is connected to that controller which happens to be my IDE HDD which shows up as a SCSI device. I tried uninstalling the HDD then to think I could also uninstall the Controller but still wasn't allowed. I've tried the Hardware Wizard uninstall and still nothing.

Any suggestions?

I am not sure if the IDE controller on the mobo is ata66/100 so if there's no resolution then I may change the 80 wire cable to a 40 wire cable and hopefully it'll eliminate the SCSI problem.

P.S. I had to signup a new account since this is just one of many computers I work off and I make the password quite tricky that even I can't memorise it unless I use it a lot. Apparently I haven't been posting here for a long time and I am sorry about that but I've been so caught up in work and working out my relationship that I just haven't had time to pop in and say Hi. I am sure I would be around sooner or later to offer my advice again.

Cheers KK

81809 2002-09-21 22:46:00 good to see youy back krazee :)

is the hardrive conected to mobo or to an ide card?

if its an ide card windows will see i as scsi card. try shifting it new pci slot.

81810 2002-09-21 23:10:00 When ata100 first came out. Some of the motherboard manufactures fitted an extra ide channel for ata100 use. You then had to install "promise" mass storage controllers to enable this channel during win2k installation. This then would make the ata100 drive appear as a scsi in the devicelist to give ata100 preformance.

If this is a problem and you have a motherboard like this. The only option was to shift your drive back to the ata66 channel and remove the mass storage controller form the device manager.

Nice to see you back

81811 2002-09-21 23:41:00 Hey tweak'e, good to see the news is still happening. Going to have to read up on it to find out how out of date I am now.

HDD is connected to the IDE controllers on the mobo there's no IDE card. I had to replace the HDD on that computer because of a chip overheating and I am sure I used the ribbon cable that was in the machine already which was the 80 wire ribbon.

I should log the work I do on my own computers but I don't because I don't have to cover my own backside if something goes wrong.

81812 2002-09-21 23:54:00 I'm glad to be back .

I think this mobo only came with the standard IDE controllers .

I'm now thinking that the 80 wire ribbon cable wasn't the original cable used since I just had to replace that hard drive that was previously in that computer because of a HDD chip overheating .

I may try and find an online manual for the features of the mobo (means I have to rip the case open) and if it's not ATA100 I may change the cable back to a 40 wire ribbon and see if that gets rid of the SCSI controllers .

Even thinking about it though, I did have Secondary IDE also conflicting with SCSi controllers but I could uninstall those which has fixed Secondary IDE's problem . I haven't checked to see if the CDROM drive works . . . It use to before . I wonder if it showed up as a SCSI CDROM .

81813 2002-09-22 08:26:00 What sort of mobo is it. Maybe it is using onboard RAID chip. -=JM=- (16)
