82270 2002-09-23 08:58:00 Seems to be the week for linux probs.... at least I am connected.
anywho, to type a ' or a " I have to hit the key twice in linux... interestingly if I only hit it once and then hit another key then that character won't pop up either...
Cool, ta....

82271 2002-09-23 10:22:00 sounds like the keyboard is set up as a international instead of a US -=JM=- (16)
82272 2002-09-24 03:36:00 In a terminal window, type dmesg | grep keyb. That will show you what keyboard is being loaded. The culprit will be in the init.d directory which is down in the /etc tree, but you will find it easier to change in linuxcfg or whatever the clever configuration tool is called these days. You will find it on the GUI desktop somewhere. (In Gnome its a spanner/toolbox icon in the toolbar). Graham L (2)

82274 2002-09-24 09:18:00 For the benefit of anyone reading this in the archives, it is worth noting that this configuration allows for the entry of accented characters. I often write material in French, and for a long time I wondered how to add accents until I eventually stumbled apon this keyboard setting when I accidentally selected it while reinstalling Mandrake.

It´s worth knowing for anyone who writes stuff in foreign languages.

82275 2002-09-24 09:42:00 I dont expect there to be an answer to this one, but its worth a try.

Maori in Linux

with doze it is a matter of downloading a font etc, what, if anything is the deal with linux?

82276 2002-09-24 11:12:00 Excuse my ignorance, but that do you need to type in Maori that you can't do on a standard english key set?

Obviously though you would want a different dictonary set, yeah? But all the macrons and accents and stuff can't you just do normally?
As far as fonts go I didn't realise that you needed anything different...

82277 2002-09-24 12:52:00 ummmm Loser,
thats ones real hard to answer because if i could type what i was talking about, i wouldn't need to ask the question.
But yeah its the squiggles above the vowels that cause the problems.

82278 2002-09-24 21:44:00 how about using a font editor (they're a dime a dozen) and making your own, if there is not too much that you need to alter. Shouldn't be hard to get hold of a good open sourse editor.
I'd be tempted to do it for you, but like I just demonstrated, I don't know what you need....

82279 2002-09-24 23:35:00 Its actually for someone else, but i shall pass the thought on to her!
