82194 2002-09-23 03:06:00 hi

i followed Peter H's advice and try connecting the two cd drive to the one ribbon. i did that but when i rebooted my computer it only detected the original cd drive. my mother board only has one socket for cd drives.

Thanks
James

82195 2002-09-23 03:16:00 Do you have documentation for your Motherboard?
Your MB must be capable of running two CDROMs
You must also set one as a master and the other as a slave. Probably through pins at the back of the CDROM.
You will also probably have to set up your bios.
(It's unlikely that the second CDROM will be autodetected)
I suggest you be careful before you go plugging too many devices into the PC.
Do your research first and play later.
Believe me I know.
I've made too many embarrassing mistakes by not using this simple piece of logic. :-)

82196 2002-09-23 03:40:00 Motherboard should have 2 IDE sockets - never heard of only 1. 1 for HD's - other for HD or Cd etc. Did the cable going to the CD have 2 sockets on it? Red side of cable must go to pin 1 of CD. CD must be set as slave - assuming other 1 is master. We'll get there. Presume you also plugged in power cable. When turning on, did the light on the new cd turn on briefly?
Bye
