82138 2002-09-22 21:37:00 I use Excel 2000 and like to show all open files on the task bar. This is easily set by putting a tick in the "windows in task bar" box in the Tools/Options/view tab.
Is there any way to make Excel remember this setting? Even if I ensure it is ticked before closing Excel it generally opens without the tick in place, (sometimes it remembers) so I have to reset the tick every time I open Excel.
Is there any way to ensure the tick stays in place?
Any help wouls be appreciated.
Many thanks

82139 2002-09-22 22:26:00 I don't use Excel 2000 so I'm only guessing here, but you might be able to save your settings in the Excel template.

In Excel, press F1 and type "template" into the search field. I got an option to "Learn about settings Microsoft Excel can save in a template" which looks fairly useful.

Failing that you could create a macro so that when you open your workbook you can just click on a shortcut or assigned keyboard shortcut to enable those settings.

82140 2002-09-23 04:55:00 Hi John, as Susan indicated you will need to save these settings in the default template so the settings are applied to all new workbooks. Look under Excel help for "Create a workbook template for new workbooks".

Briefly the process is...
1) Open a new workbook and amend the settings. You can also take this opportunity to change the default font or anything else you like.
2) Select File-Save as and navigate to your XLStart folder (normally Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office/XlStart). The filename you save as must be Book.xlt (not Book1).

Now when you open new workbook this will be the default.

cheers
