1314981 2012-11-26 22:52:00 I'm guessing this isn't possible, but thought I'd ask...

You can install and run Linux on bare metal from a virtual partition (loopback?) inside an NTFS drive such as with Wubi, can the same thing be done with Windows?

1314982 2012-11-26 22:59:00 Like this? (www.ehow.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1314983 2012-11-26 23:09:00 No, I mean creating an image of a partition\disk like you do in a program such as Virtual PC, VirtualBox etc but instead of running the installed OS inside that program, under a host OS, rather booting from it directly, allowing the OS installed to the image to run directly on the hardware, save for the virtual hard drive. 1314984 2012-11-26 23:15:00 Like a vhd file or similar then?? Which by the looks of it wont work in XP anyway. So it may have to be ISO or something else?

Something like this? (www.askvg.com)

1314985 2012-11-26 23:44:00 Windows XP can't do this, but Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 8 Pro can both boot from a VHD. pcuser42 (130)
1314986 2012-11-26 23:53:00 Windows XP can't do this, but Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows 8 Pro can both boot from a VHD.

Good enough... but how does one do this?

1314987 2012-11-26 23:54:00 Poweriso may do it, since it supports VHD files, and WIM files. But its not free Speedy Gonzales (78)
1314988 2012-11-27 00:28:00 Yea I've done this on my laptop running Win8.
I have Windows Server 2012 booting from a VHD.
