1313729 2012-11-20 21:25:00 Problem with printing from a workplace computer.

Puter is some crappy Dell model, running Windows XP pro. (32 bit I think).

I've tried two separate printers on this machine and neither works. Both have been Brother models, mono laser printers. HL2130 (currently connected) and a HL2240D. Both run via USB cable.

I have installed up to date drivers for each machine. The computer sees the printers but if I send a print job, nothing happens - no action from the printer. I've followed the troubleshooter routine as far as I can each time without any change. Can't even get a test page out of either printer. The print queue says "error printing" each time.

I keep thinking the settings might be up to pole but I don't see anything obvious - everything is pretty much default.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

1313730 2012-11-20 22:10:00 Perhaps the printers are bust? Try using a different computer. Slankydudl (16687)

Neither of those is ticked.

1313734 2012-11-20 23:08:00 Did you wait for the install to tell you to plug the printer in and turn it on, before plugging it / them into a USB port? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1313735 2012-11-20 23:10:00 Is the print spooler running under services ?

To check - Control Panel/Admin Tools/ Services - print Spooler -- Should be automatic / Started. If it is, then stop it, and restart it, sometimes that can help.

It was auto and started. Stopped and restarted as per your suggestion. Tried printing a notepad doc. After a long wait, the printer put through four blank sheets of paper...ngngngrrrrrr.
