@pctek,
Grats, it's awesome to get a payrise and be rewarded like that, no matter how small! :)

1289908 2012-07-22 11:48:00 If it's under 65k it's probably not really a sysadmin role....

What makes you think this? If someone is fully employed at a company and working as a system administrator they would get in the 40k range

Why ask questions if you already know everything?

40k is flunky wages.

Yeah...I didn't expect it, had been told payrises were a rare occurrence.......all good.

We bought another company - Hosting Direct - most of it anyway, and took their support guy, I think he got paid more than us, and of course they had to keep him on that, not drop his.

The company i work for last gave a cost of living payrise of 2% about 6 years ago. Nothing since even though we heard that last year was their best record for years but we suspect that the money is going across the ditch to subsidize a loss making operation over there..

1289913 2012-07-22 23:29:00 yeah, system administration is in support i guess, ijusthadit (16796)
1289914 2012-07-22 23:36:00 Maybe support yeah .. but companies use names loosely. Just b/c the job is called a Sys Admin, there's diff types of it. Would that be the same for a big govt dept or Telecom or Alcatel?

If out of uni, you want a Sys Admin role, sure you may heard your university tutor got one, yep, but they got head hunted on campus because they were a top honours/masters student. And they might be working for a big international IT firm.

Yes but its a wage.... and a job.
Theres no shortage of IT techs willing to work for $40K . So I guess no real incentive to pay much more , especially when jobs are hard to get .

I got 2K payrise last year. I wont get another for many many years.
