1290680	2012-07-24 23:11:00	Railway enthusiasts - and others - will have noticed the work going on around the Auckland suburban network. Many of the poles that will support the catenary for the new EMUs have been erected and some of the catenary is in place. I understand that the new EMUs will be arriving next year, but before that some tests will need to be carried out on the new installations. I was told that the railways may be bringing up one of the class 30 locomotives for the testing. Is that true? If that is correct it would be great to get some shots of a 30 locomotive on the Auckland network. If the rumour is correct is there someone in the know who might be able to tell us when this is going to happen? Your help will be greatly appreciated.:thanks	Roscoe (6288)

1290683	2012-07-25 03:25:00	No, the Class 30s (technically the EF class) will not be brought up to Auckland as they are incompatible with our electrification system. While they do occasionally come up here behind diesel locomotives, they only come to use the wheel lathe at Westfield. :p The catenary on the Onehunga branch has already been tested, and this was done with a hi-rail truck with a pantograph fitted.	pcuser42 (130)
