I am doing some tests around the recorded accuracy of downloaded data in special circumstances (time-related), and need some easy known-size files to download. Unfortunately, the site I linked to above is in the UK and I need some largish files (>0.5GB) to download within a ten minute time-frame... The 20MB file on that site is looking to take an hour!! Even at a speed of nearly 14 down... |

That doesn't sound right ... sometimes when you first start a download it will give a false "estimated download time", however, this will change dramatically once download has been running for say 30 seconds. Some that I have done start out estimating 1hr 15m 30s ... after the first 10 or 20 seconds seconds, it comes back saying 3m 20s Edit .. just tried your link ... 20MB estimated download less than 3 minutes (Took just over 2.5minutes)... and my download is only around 8 |

| 1290114 | 2012-07-22 22:55:00 | Check there's not a chair resting on one of the interweb tubes and throttling it mechanically. It is a serious thing when your tubes get squashed unless you can get data that is neatly aligned head to tail and with the bytes restricted to nybbles. Test files are often random data, just flung into a file by the handful and often come out with the long axis of the data across the direction of travel. Naturally this causes crashes and a major slowdown at the narrow sections of the intertubes, almost like having a Norton attack. Have you tried iLiner? |
