82920 2002-09-25 02:58:00 Sounds like this has just happened so first things first....
Have you tried rebooting your PC and turning your scanner off/on?
If this doesn't work, provide some extra info, like what operating systems are you running, what sort of scanner do you have...

82921 2002-09-25 10:16:00 Thanks Peter. .We have a Umax Astra 2000U scanner. Possibly when my hubby was cleaning it he may have dislodged a wire when he opened it and cleaned the mirrors as it warms up then comes up with the error message. It was working perfectly before except for red horizontal and vertical lines on the scanned photo. lojos_ (1659)
82922 2002-09-25 10:45:00 Yeah sorry, don't have any experience with this brand of scanner. My first thought though is it may be hardware related. (I think that this model is a few years old now so you might have had it for a while). The horizontal and vertical lines on your scanned pages don't sound good, and with the error coming up as the scanner is warming up it might possible indicate the lamp has gone in the scanner.
When you first get the message that the scanner is warming up do you hear any noise from the scanner itself?
If not, check that all the cables going from the scanner to the computer are correctly and tightly pluged in. (It would probably pay to do this anyway). Don't forget to check the power cable too! :)
If all appears fine your next steps depend on a couple of things.
What operating system are you running? WindowsXP? Windows2000? Windows98? Mac? or God forbid.....Linux???
Also what cable is used to plug the scanner into the computer, USB or parallel? If you are unsure A parallel cable ends looks like a long flat rectangle with lot's of holes or lots of pins sticking out...
If you answer those questions I and others may be able to help you more.

82923 2002-09-25 21:08:00 Peter,
thanks for your reply. The scanner is only 2 years old(brought fron Harvey Norman) with very little use.We are operating Windows 98 and the cable is USB. There appears to be nothing wrong with that.Whereas the scanner would normally take 20-30 secs to warm up after 5 secs the error message comes up.The light is on in the scanner and before we could click the on/off switch on the icon we are unable to do that now.I have removed and reloaded the programme twice to no avail.
When I go into system properties device manager etc the location of the driver comes up as C;\WINDOWS\INF\122OIU.INF.but index driver file detail list is C;\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PV8630.SYS and it says the first one is unknown. I thought theremight be some connection. As you can see I am a newbie at this. Also under I maging Device it mention under usb controllers the printer but not the scanner HELP PLEASE

82925 2002-09-26 01:17:00 It sounds like your computer is having trouble talking to your scanner. This could be a number of factors like the USB cable or the drivers. The next best thing to do is go to www.umax.com if you haven't already.
There you can select your scanner model and you get a big list of support documents on your specific scanner. Look for the troubleshooting documents and go through them.
They go into how to reinstall your scanner drivers, checking your computers USB and other good stuff.

good luck.
