82848 2002-09-25 01:15:00 I used InCD 3 to backup some files, but those file cannot be read by other computer's CD-ROM (creative 48x ). I tried installed InCd and UDF reader in the computer but still can't read the file, in fact those files doesn't exist.
It can only be view by my pc with cd writer installed.

is there anyway to view CD-RW's contain in other pc without a CD-writer installed? I backed up some useful window ultilities and like to installed in 2nd computer.

82850 2002-09-25 03:08:00 I would like to know the answer to this one too :)

My other computer is running win95 with a x8 cdrom. It will read CD-R data or CD-R audio but not CD-RW.

My main computer used to have a x20 Liteon CDROM and that wouldnt read a CD-RW made with an AOPEN writer +INCD +Nero either. When it went a bit wonky, I replaced it with a x52 Liteon CDROM drive and that reads a CD-RW with no problem.

Maybe it's something to do with the CDROM drive compatibility?

82851 2002-09-25 03:16:00 CD RW is not read reliably by some drives, as you have found. Truth is I seldom ever use CD RW, as CDR are so cheap.

If you don't finalise a disk I have found it to be unreadable in anything but a CDRW drive (at least the last files written are usually not viewable)

There is a large difference in reflectivity of the dyes in CDRW vs CDR I believe, which accounts for the compatability problems. Newer drives do seem better, with even later stereos being CDR/W compatable.

82852 2002-09-25 03:48:00 If I "finalised" the CD-RW, will I be able to write anymore file in the
Cd-RW? (ie. drag and drop/ delete)

And a quick one. how do you finalised it? Within InCD capability or Nero 5.5?

Thanks :)

82853 2002-09-25 03:50:00 Yep, unfortunately I have the same problem.

It's not really a worry for me because if I want to transfer files to the other PC I burn them onto a CD-R. I was pretty brassed off when I discovered the "fault" though. It means that I've got to finalise the CD-R disk before it will be read in the other PCs CD-ROM and I won't finalise a disk unless it is full, preferably filled up in one session.

godfather, you can't "finalise" a CD-RW disk, you are thinking of CD-R disks.

82854 2002-09-25 04:14:00 Oops, you are probably right, shows that I havent used them for so long!

I see the small CDR are coming down in price, good idea for backups or transfer, but not while they cost more than full size.

No, you don't finalise CD-RW disks . You just keep dragging and dropping and deleting your files with InCD, just like you do with a floppy disk . You can keep adding and deleting as much as you like .

With CD-R disks you can't re-write over your files but you can add more to the disk until it is full as long as it hasn't been "finalised" . Be aware though, that the files from previous sessions of writing to CD-R disks may not be available due to the Table of Contents being overwritten . There have been other threads on this forum about this if you want to search the archives for them .
