2002-09-24 22:55:00 | Who named Spam, Spam....... and why? Everytime I hear that word, it either reminds me of Monty Python, or makes me hungry for a slice of that delicious meat morsel ! BALDY:-)

2002-09-24 23:43:00 | "Spam is the same thing many times. It originally appeared as a term to describe EMP (Excessive Multi Posting) and ECP (Excessive Cross Posting) on USENET. It is also used to describe UBE (Unsolicited Bulk E-mail) and UCE (Unsolicited Commercial E-mail). The term spam is said to come from a Monty Python skit from the second series of Monty Pythons Flying Circus. In this skit, Vikings sing a chorus about spam while a woman tries to get something to eat that doesnt contain spam . Much like our attempts to limit the amount of UBE that comes into our mailboxes, she was unsuccessful in getting a meal that doesnt contain spam."

2002-09-25 02:35:00 | TechTarget (searchsystemsmanagement.techtarget.com) tells us that: " A first-hand report indicates that the term is derived from a famous Monty Python sketch ( " Well, we have Spam, tomato & Spam, egg & Spam, Egg, bacon & Spam... " ) that was current when spam first began arriving on the Internet. Spam is a trademarked Hormel meat product that was well-known in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. "

2002-09-25 05:50:00 | Spam. The stuff I remember came in tins. Tinned processed meat. I don't know what was in it but as a kid during WW2 I hated the stuff. Poppa John | Poppa John (284) | |

2002-09-25 06:10:00 | No, I think Spam actually contained cow and/or sheep and/or pig meat, not "parts" of horses. | Graham L (2) | |
