82786 2002-09-24 22:22:00 Hi

Im having trouble with IE, it keeps freezing if i have 3 or more windows open, sometimes 2 will do it. I am running windows me (thats probably half the problem). As soon as i open a browser window it seems to slow the whole system down. This is a new problem that just started, i have done defrags, scan disks, check disks and virus scans. I cant update my virus scanner as trying to freezes the dam thing.

Any help would be greatly appericated and its a real pain in the ass and is stopping me from getting my assignments done.

Thanks
Aaron

82787 2002-09-24 23:10:00 What version IE have you got? Baldy (26)
82788 2002-09-24 23:16:00 firstly check how many programs you have got running in the background.

check for spyware. give adaware a run.

check IE cache size(temporary internet files). you want it no bigger than 40meg. on a slower system (i have no idea how fast your pc is) try 20meg.

it might also a good idea to clean out the cache and clean out the index dats, see the FAQ's(top of page) for that one.

what virus scanner do you have?

82790 2002-09-24 23:20:00 You could either try to repair IE6 (from Add?remove) or ditch it all together and install Netscape7 which is a very good browser, or even Opera, which people seem to rave about.

I had IE6 on my system, and its a load of cr*p

82791 2002-09-24 23:28:00 nah....netscape sucks :p go OPERA :^O

but really changing browser is not going to fix they problem if other apps such as antivirus are crashing to.

repair optoin would be worth a try.

have you recently installed something?

82792 2002-09-24 23:34:00 yeah i did install a couple of programs but have removed them. thanks for your help axel (2015)
82793 2002-09-24 23:47:00 Run a registry cleaner first (see the FAQ on the registry - link top right of this window) and if that doesn't fix it, do a repair of IE6. This is done via Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Internet Explorer. Susan B (19)
82794 2002-09-24 23:48:00 >>> Run a registry cleaner first

That is, after you've tried tweak'e's suggestions.

82795 2002-09-24 23:58:00 what programs did you install? sometimes they leave bits behind or install aware/spyware as well. also some install parts into IE and can cause a bit of havoc. tweak'e (174)
