82782 2002-09-24 21:52:00 Hi,got the thing running again, after a new hard drive, then me going and removing viruses in DOS (with carefully written instructions from a friend),and a refresh.,etc.I've installed IE6 for her,up from IE4.Now can't access her old emails. She also had Netscape 4 I think it was, which she used rather than IE/OE.Found mbx,idx files in mail folders under OE.Also mail folders holding--inbox sbo and inbox msf--Netscape ones?Been on Google but can't find anything to help me open these mail folder contents.Any help appreciated,as she has photos she wants to get back.See what happens when someone with a liittle knowledge gets loose! At least it's all up and running and protected now!And the kids can chat with friends again!2 weeks without, very tough.Thanks,Neil. 82783 2002-09-24 22:01:00 Open OE, go File, Import, Messages, and browse for your old message files. You can import messages of both your old OE as well as Netscape Mail. Alternatively, install Netscape again, and do the same thing to them into Netscape. Greg S (201)
82784 2002-09-24 22:16:00 Try doing a search for *.dbx files.

If she is using OE and her original Inbox, etc is still on the hard drive you should find two Inboxes. Check the dates and just move her original (older) Inbox and other .dbx folders to the same folder as the newer ones to replace the newer ones. Note that any emails sent and received since fixing the PC will disappear if you do this.

Can I offer you a suggestion? Please could you keep all your posts regarding a particular topic in the same thread so that we can keep track of what has been going on? eg this post could/should have been tacked onto the thread detailing all the problems with your sister's PC. It just makes it a lot easier to know what advice has been given and what has been done.

82785 2002-09-25 01:04:00 Thanks Susan and Greg.I didn't want to move any files around before I found out what would happen,so now will save the latest emails for her and then try!And I will now stick to the same thread,Susan.Sorry, thought it was getting a bit big for people to scroll through! :) Neil McC (178)
