82671 2002-09-24 11:30:00 I've seen it done before - I think though on Macs or Linux...

I've got two screens, but it's just one large (wide) desktop. Is it possible to make TWO independant desktops, with start menus, task bars, icons etc. on the two screens, but that I can switch between just by using the mouse... I mean Windows will let me create multiple desktops (found that the other day... can't remember what it came with - possibly Powertoys), well I want to have two of those desktops displayed at the same time :)

running Win XP Pro.

82672 2002-09-24 11:41:00 Haven't tried it, but XP lets you have multiple dektops on one monitor, so surely its possible over two.

Right click the taskbar and select toolbars>Desktop manager.

Have a play with this, and let me know how you get on. I can't try it as I have one measly screen.

82673 2002-09-24 11:49:00 It won't let you display two desktops at the same time though, will it? That's what I'm wanting :)

82674 2002-09-24 12:08:00 This (www.realtimesoft.com) wee piece of freeware would probably be the closest you could get.

Let me know if it suits - take the tour - it has some good screen shots.

82676 2002-09-24 12:47:00 Are you doing it with a second video card??

I think it's possible for me to do it with the TV out on my GF4 MX440. I'll have a play tomorrow.

82677 2002-09-24 22:33:00 Yeah with a second video card.

what would be REALLY handy is to have one user account open on one screen, and another on the second screen, but I think that's just asking too much of microsoft, so instead I just want two desktops displayed - one on one screen, one on the other.

82678 2002-09-25 03:13:00 I have read a MS KB article that explains how to do that - check the knowledge base.
