82520 2002-09-24 09:35:00 I am in the process of making a Web Site on 1st Page 2000.

I have managed to make the home page ok but am now having problems linking to the next page. I think it has to do with how I have it saved, I'm not sure about how to have all the files tied together. At the moment they are all in My Documents (I can hear you all Laughing...)

Any help would be appreciated

82521 2002-09-24 09:47:00 im not too sure how 1st page 200 works, but the problem your having is probably the number one problem people have when starting out when using a wysiwyg webpage maker. problems comeabout with the way you have linked to your 'next page', the two ways being relative (eg. /images/frog.gif) and absolute (eg. h t t p ://my.homepage.com/images/frog.gif)

now you have to go into your code (using notepad, or 1st page) of the home page, and look for the links that are causing you grief, and change the links to relative, because supposedly the files that these links are going to be linking to are in the same folder, so the file name (eg page2.htm) is usually sufficient

WRONG
link (file://C:\My Documents\New Web\webpage\page2.htm)

RIGHT (if homepage, which should be called index.htm is in the same folder)
link (page2.htm)

another right way is possible with an absolute path, but relative is a better way

82522 2002-09-24 09:49:00 May I say firstly, good choice in 1st page 2000!

I had a similar problem when i first started using it, make sure that the extension is either .htm or .html, that could be why.

e.g. a href="page2.htm "
a href="page2.html"

Hope it works, let us know :)

82523 2002-09-24 09:52:00 Whats wrong with my docs?

I'd give it a folder of it's own if you think you might lose it though..
ok, you have 2 pages, the first page i shall call "index.htm" as your web server would like that
the second, i shall call "page2.htm"

If they are in the same folder, make sure you are linking to "page2.htm" WITHOUT any reference to where the folder might be.

example:

click to get to the next bit (page2.htm)

This will produce a link that works

you'll have to open it with notepad (i think) to see it like this.

82524 2002-09-24 10:02:00 it can be seen in 1st page, although notepad is really good. sometimes use wordpad just for the "find" feature that comes in handy if theres lots of text tones_malones (611)
82525 2002-09-24 10:20:00 Ok what I have written is

<A HERF="Nextpage.html">Nextpage</A>

In First page 2000 when I want to open the page, all the pages are in a file "MY Website"
But each time I close it down it makes another "home page" and puts ~1st- in front of the file name!

As you can tell Im very new at this, your help is great thanks

82526 2002-09-24 10:27:00 check the caps of the filename, is your nextpage "Nextpage.html" or "nextpage.html" the difference being the the capital "N' tones_malones (611)
82527 2002-09-24 10:28:00 So long as the file you want to link to is called Nextpage.html your link will be fine

Makesure it is in the same folder, and i personally like to keep everything in lower case, as the links ARE case sensitive

82528 2002-09-24 10:30:00 also check it could be navigation.html or navigation.htm

I sometimes get mixed up and put html insted of htm or the other way round

82529 2002-09-24 10:38:00 I have checked the case and it is exactly the same.

But it still wont work.....

The first page is called - My Home Page.html - Should it be Index? Could that be the prob?
